my college experience

Hello all!

As I already mentioned in my 'proposal blog' I started my first year of pre-school education this year. I will tell you more about my experience in higher education so far.

Before I started the training people said to me very often ' it gets difficult, it's a lot of work, you have to do a lot of crafting,..... To be honest, all this made me a little afraid, because I wanted to have time for friends and family. But I didn't let myself be scared off and went for it. In the meantime we are 1 semester far, I have passed my first exams and also the first internship.

The subject matter

The subject matter is indeed a lot more than in previous years, so it is also a matter of planning very well when to do something and by when. I know from myself that I am a bit of a deferral, so I had to make sure that I am with the subject matter and had to sum up in time. If you really maintain this well, it will certainly be fine.

Tasks / assignments

The tasks and assignments are also a complete change. As I said, people said to me that I was going to have a lot of "craft assignments". This is absolutely not what I had expected of it, in fact, we've hardly received any 'craft assignments' yet, but we've got a lot of other tasks, which also require a lot of planning. You don't get any points for most tasks either, so you have no idea whether you did it right or wrong. This brings with it a lot of uncertainties. At the beginning of the school year I came home and I absolutely didn't feel like doing anything for school anymore and said 'I'll do that next time', but this way the tasks keep piling up until you don't have the time to make them all. When I was in a period when I had a lot of tasks I said to myself 'when I come home I work whatever school even if it is only an hour'. This was successful and it made it easier for me to keep up with all the tasks. So don't miss a thing because you'll regret it anyway!

exams

Not so long ago I had my first exams in higher education. I was very afraid of this because these were oral and written exams and I had hardly had any oral exams. I was also very afraid of the written exams because I did not know how they would be put together, how the questions would be asked,.... Finally, looking back now on those moments, there was absolutely no need to be afraid. The exams were as good as the same principle as in secondary school. so don't stress!

Timetable

The biggest change so far is our schedule. In my previous years in secondary school I was used to having the same fixed schedule every week, now this is all but a fixed schedule. Every week the timetables are different which makes that I sometimes have to puzzle for my buses to get to school. This of course also means that I don't have a fixed sleep rhythm anymore and sometimes I can suffer from this. For example there are days when I have lessons of 8h15 but there are also days in between when I have lessons from 13h. There is a lot of difference here and I have a hard time with that. Sometimes there are also very long days, e.g. from 8.15 am to 5.45 pm, but yes, we have to take that with us. But don't worry there are many directions that do have a fixed schedule.

Conclusion

My decision is actually, make sure you plan enough (tasks and assignments + summarizing learning material) and don't worry too much about what will come because in the end everything will be fine.

love Joyce 💕
